Pin messages and bookmark links

In any channel or direct message (DM), you can pin important messages to the conversation header and add bookmarks to keep track of useful links. All members of a conversation can access these items in the   Pins tab and in   Bookmark folder tabs.

Manage pinned messages

When you pin a message for the first time, it will automatically create a Pins tab in the conversation header. Open the tab to browse and manage the pinned messages in a conversation.

Pin a message

  1. From your desktop, hover over the message that you’d like to pin.
  2. Click the  three dots icon.
  3. Select Pin to channel, or Pin to this conversation in a DM.

Tip: You can also pin messages from your mobile device. Tap and hold a message, then select Pin message or Pin to conversation.

Remove a pinned message

  1. From your desktop, open a channel or DM, then click on the   Pins tab in the conversation header.
  2. Hover over the message that you'd like to un-pin and click on the   three dots icon.
  3. Click on Remove pinned item. If you remove items that someone else pinned, they'll receive a Slackbot message letting them know.

Tip: Need to keep track of something just for yourself? Save a message or file instead.

Manage bookmarks

Bookmarks can be used to keep links to websites or external resources handy. When you create a bookmark, you'll add it to a folder in the conversation header.

Add a bookmark

  1. From your desktop, open a channel or DM.
  2. Click on the   plus button, select   Bookmark folder, enter a name for your folder and then click on Add. Or, select an existing bookmark folder.
  3. Click on Add bookmark.
  4. Paste a link, then add a name and emoji, if you like.
  5. Click Add.

Remove a bookmark

  1. From your desktop, open a channel or DM.
  2. Select the folder that contains the bookmark you’d like to delete.
  3. Hover over the bookmark, then click on the   three dots icon.
  4. Select Remove pin, then click on Delete.

Note: If you're unable to create a bookmark folder, a channel manager may have restricted this permission.
