A reintroduction to Slackbot
In October 2025, we announced a new AI-powered version of Slackbot. The new Slackbot is being rolled out now, and you can read on for details on availability, administrative settings and permissions, and how Slackbot can help anyone to navigate their workday with ease.

That one DM from your boss, the document your teammate shared that you can’t remember the name of, your misplaced house keys (just kidding, a bot can dream). You name it, Slackbot can help track it down. -
Analyse and create content
Send Slackbot a spreadsheet, PDF or canvas. It’ll let you know what’s important, and brainstorm ideas or draft an updated version. -
Help your day run smoothly
Slackbot can set reminders, reference information from connected apps like your calendar and Salesforce and even prep talking points for your next meeting.
Note: Slack AI guardrails are a built-in security that provide multi-layered protections to prevent harmful outputs and security risks.
Slackbot availability
Starting 13 January 2026, the new version of Slackbot will be gradually rolling out to customers on certain subscriptions. Org owners and admins on Enterprise Grid and Enterprise+ subscriptions can set specific Slackbot access permissions (or restrict access to Slackbot entirely) until 9 February 2026.

Tip: If you're on the legacy Business+ subscription and did not purchase the Slack AI add-on, or you’re using Slack on the free or Pro subscription, upgrade to the new version of Business+ to give Slackbot a try.
Manage access to Slackbot
Business+ and Enterprise Select
Enterprise Grid and Enterprise+
- From your desktop, click Admin in the sidebar.
- Select Workspace settings from the menu.
- Click Roles & permissions, then click Feature access.
- Click AI.
- Next to Slackbot, click Edit.
- Select Everyone or No one.
- Tick the box next to Slackbot can edit and add content to canvases to give Slackbot permission to create and modify canvases. You can also decide which files in your organisation can be included in Slackbot responses.
- Click on Save.
You can set permissions to manage access to Slackbot once it rolls out to your organisation between 10 February and 23 February, or enable it immediately once you’ve decided who can use it.
- From your desktop, click your organisation name in the sidebar.
- Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Organisation settings.
- Click Roles & permissions and select Feature access.
- Click AI.
- Next to Slackbot, click Edit and choose who can use it – No one, Only specific people and groups, Everyone except specific people and groups or Everyone.
- Tick the box next to Slackbot can edit and add content to canvases to give Slackbot permission to create and modify canvases. You can also decide which files in your organisation can be included in Slackbot responses.
- Click on Save.
- To turn Slackbot on immediately, click Yes, enable now. Select No, wait to apply your settings when Slackbot rolls out to your organisation.
Slackbot usage limits
Business+ customers will have a limit on the number of messages that users can send to Slackbot each week. However, they’ll start with an introductory Slackbot usage period where these limits don’t apply. Starting 1 April 2026, this limit will be enforced, but it will not be lower than 10 messages per user, per week. There are no usage limits in place for customers on Enterprise subscriptions.
System abuse limits
While we do not enforce usage limits for customers on Enterprise subscriptions, all Slackbot interactions must comply with our Acceptable Use Policy. Additionally, you may not attempt to overwhelm Slack’s infrastructure by imposing a disproportionate load on our system. This includes any activity that consumes excessive computing resources:

Automated high frequency requests
Using bots, scripts or scrapers to send requests to our servers at a frequency that exceeds human capability or standard browser use. -
Capability circumvention
Engaging in activities designed to bypass limits.
Violation of these policies constitutes a material breach of the Main Services Agreement (MSA) and may result in immediate service suspension or account termination.
Security and privacy
Responses from Slackbot are based only on the information you have access to in Slack. Read on for more details on how Slack ensures that using Slackbot is a secure experience:
- Along with our other AI features, Slackbot is protected by the Slack AI Guardrails. These guardrails are a built-in security framework that ensure privacy and security while using Slack AI features and prevent misuse.
- In addition to managing access permissions for Slackbot, owners and admins can decide which connected Salesforce orgs Slackbot can access. Org owners and admins on Enterprise subscriptions can also restrict Slackbot access to certain channels, canvases and lists.
How to use Slackbot
Slackbot can help you brainstorm ideas, prep for a project kickoff, schedule meetings and much more.
- From your desktop, click Slackbot next to the search bar.
- Choose a prompt or type your message or question into the message field.
- Press Enter or click the paper plane icon to send your message.
- Depending on the complexity of your request, it may take Slackbot a minute or two to respond. As it works to generate a response, you can see the steps it’s taking (like performing searches, refining search results or adding information to a canvas).
FAQ
What information does Slackbot have access to?
Slackbot has access to all of the information shared in your workspace or organisation and any enterprise search data sources that you’ve connected to Slack, but responses it sends will be based only on content you have access to. This means that while Slackbot can access content in private channels and files that haven’t been shared widely, they’ll only be referenced in answers it sends to you if you can access those specific channels and files.
How does Slackbot work if I don't have access to the new version?
Here’s what you can expect if you’re on the Free or Pro subscription, or you’re on our Business+ or Enterprise subscription and your access to the new version of Slackbot has been restricted. We’re in the process of moving messages delivered by Slackbot, like notifications about channels and app approval requests, to Activity. In the meantime, you may see messages pop up from Slackbot on occasion. If you upgrade your subscription or get access to the new Slackbot, you’ll still see some of those messages in the History tab.
What will happen to my Slackbot custom responses?
Any Slackbot custom responses you set up will be posted on behalf of your workspace rather than delivered by Slackbot. Owners and admins can manage these messages from the Automated messages tab of their Workspace settings page.
