Slack administration: Manage workflow usage in Slack Connect conversations

Workflow managers can set access permissions that determine whether external people can use a workflow. Owners and admins can override these permissions to decide the following:

  • Whether external people can use workflows created by members of their workspace or Enterprise Grid organization.
  • If their members can use workflows created by external people.


Choose who can run workflows

To decide who can use workflows in Slack Connect, follow the steps below.

Pro and Business+

Enterprise Grid

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
  2. Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Workflow usage for Slack Connect, click Expand.
  5. Check or uncheck the boxes, then click Save.

  2. Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Organization settings.
  3. Click Slack Connect in the left sidebar, then select Settings.
  4. Next to Workflows, click Edit.
  5. Check or uncheck the boxes, then click Save Setting.


Workflow limitations

To protect your organization, external people in Slack Connect conversations can't start a workflow that contains the following steps:

If the workflow includes a button, external people can click the button to progress any workflow that was started by a member of your organization.

*External users can't start or progress a workflow if the connector step requires them to authenticate their third-party account.  

Note: Be sure to include external organizations in the Who can find and use this workflow access permission in Workflow Builder to allow them to use workflows in Slack Connect conversations.

Who can use this feature?
  • Org Owners/Admins (Enterprise Grid plan) and Workspace Owners (Pro and Business+ plans)
  • Available on paid plans
