Forward messages in Slack

You can forward messages in Slack when you need to add context or key information to conversations. To forward a message, you have two options:

  • Use the  forward message icon
  • Copy a link to the message

Forward a message

Using the forward message icon, you can automatically share a message to another conversation along with an optional message of your own.

  1. On your desktop, hover over the message you’d like to share and click the   Forward message icon on the right.
  2. Use the drop-down menu to choose where you'd like to share the message, and add a note if you'd like.
  3. Click Forward to see the message expand.
  1. Tap and hold the message you'd like to share and select  Forward Message.
  2. Choose where you’d like to share the message.
  3. Add an optional note, if you’d like.
  4. Tap Send.

  2. Tap the #channel name and choose where you’d like to share the message.
  3. Add an optional note, if you’d like.
  4. Tap the   paper plane icon to send your message.

 

Copy a link to a message

You can manually copy a message link and paste it to another conversation to share it. The message will expand to show a preview, just like when you share other links in Slack.

  1. Hover over the message you’d like to share.
  2. Click the  three dots icon and choose Copy link.
  3. Paste the link into the message field, add text of your own if you’d like, and press Enter to send it.
  4. If the link is from a message in a private channel or DM, you’ll have the option to Show message or Only show link.

  3. Paste the link in a channel or direct message and tap the  paper plane icon to send. The copied link will expand to display the message you're quoting.
  4. If the link is from a message in a private channel or DM, you’ll have the option to Show message or Only show link
